Hydroponics is the method of gardening that benefits not only your dinner table but your environment as well. This is the growing medium for plants that is used where the ground or climate in a region cannot normally support the growing of plant life. This is a technology that is mainly used by greenhouse and home hobbyists.

Hydroponics is a technology for growing plants in water containing fertilizers without the use of an artificial means to give mechanical support. The progress of this was determined very fast and the result that was attained in various countries has proven it to be practical and has very definite advantages over conventional methods or horticulture.

The two main advantages of this are it gives a much higher plants productivity and it can be put in any places and do not require large area to settle, where ordinary agriculture or gardening is impossible. Hydroponics also allows people who that live in a crowded city streets to still have fresh fruits and vegetables by growing in window boxes or on housetops.

Hydroponics has two main types that are used on the plant production and that is the solution culture and the medium culture. The solution culture do not use a solid medium for the roots, it only uses the nutrient solution. There are three main types of solution culture such as static culture, continuous flow solution culture and the aeroponics.

On the other hand, the medium culture method uses solid medium for the roots and is named for the type of medium such as sand culture, gravel culture or rock wood culture. For each medium there are two variations to consider, the sub-irrigation and the top irrigation.

On having a more successful hydroponics some reservoirs now are built of plastic. But the most important technique that should not be forgotten is the light because it will be the one to help promote the growth of algae in the nutrient solution.

This system totally makes gardening more easy and convenient. Aside from that, this is a gardening that is free from chemicals. Hydroponics grown fruits and vegetables are at present a very safe and healthy type of crop… not to mention to superior taste of this type of food.
