Protect Your Windows With Awnings For Home

Large windows are a great addition to any home. Awnings for home attach above the windows on the outside so that the view and ventilation are not blocked, but the blazing summer sun is prevented from warming the home. The additional heat from an unprotected window can cost you more in air conditioning bills.

Without windows, a home could be very drab and dreary. Most homeowners find them a welcome addition to the home. They give light inside and allow a view out as well as provide ventilation. Unfortunately, when the sun is at its hottest, the window call allow solar heating to warm up your home.

Window curtains and blinds may help to keep some of the heat from solar heating out of the home. However, by the time the interior window covering has blocked the sun, much of it has already entered the home and it will leak around the window covering. Awnings prevent the sun’s rays from ever hitting the glass and keep all of that heat on the outside where it needs to be.

Awnings protect the home from the sun’s rays when they strike the earth from the most overhead angle in the summer. During the winter, when the sun is at a lower angle, the sun can still shine through the windows, giving your home the benefit of passive solar heating. Awnings that roll up for storage can give you the full effect of the sun for winter time solar heating. Additionally, these awnings have the advantage of being stored away from the effects of winter weather.

Awnings are available in many different colors to match the exterior of your home. In addition, they can be made of many different materials. Your choice between permanent and retractable awning may make a difference in the materials that are available.

You will also find awnings that are designed to cover a patio area. The awning can protect you from the sun and ultraviolet rays of the sun when dinning Al fresco. If you want to work on a tan on the patio, retract the awning. If it starts to rain while you are picnicking, the awning will provide shelter for the party to continue.

In the past, most retractable awnings for home relied on a hand crank mechanism that required the owner to go out into the heat and turn the crank to open or close the awning. Today, the hand crank has been replaced by an electric motor. Using the remote control, you can open or close an awning without ever leaving the comfort of the home.
