Small Outdoor FountainsWhen you want a striking centerpiece for your garden and there is  limited space, then a small outdoor fountain is the right accent for you. There is nothing like the ambiance of a water feature, as landscapers call such water-based garden accents, because they provide not only visual appeal but a calming and relaxing effect as well.  Small outdoor fountains set the charm of moving water against a backdrop of exquisitely sculpted art forms. They provide the same benefits to your well-being as their larger counterparts do.

Small outdoor fountains measure no more than thirty six inches. They are very versatile in terms of deciding where to locate them. There are types with small bases and therefore take up little space and there are types which make up for small stature with a wide breadth. They may be wall mounted, placed on a patio table or on a tiny piece of ground. They may be situated as the main attraction where it brings a viewer’s eyes to focus directly on it or as a subtle enhancement to the other features of the whole landscape.

There is an enormous selection of small fountains to choose from, whether you are looking for a waterfall, cascading, or wall fountain. The materials used in their construction vary greatly and you may opt for cast stone, fiberglass, copper and even natural stone such as marble, sandstone, granite or slate. If you wish to boost the subdued sounds of a small fountain, there are varieties that include chimes or bells. The water’s force as it strikes the chimes or bells, creates a sweet tinkling music that is pleasing to the ears.

The ancient Chinese philosopher, Lao-Tze said, “Nothing in the world is as soft and yielding as the water from a fountain. Yet for dissolving the hard and inflexible, nothing can surpass the fountain.” There is nothing more enchanting than the magical combination of the soft element of water gracefully flowing in a solid piece of fine art.

Water is not only the source of life, it also nourishes the soul. Listening to the gentle sound of moving water is a perfect way to relax and forget the worries of a stressful day. Its calming qualities bring stillness to a spirit that is wound up with the troubles of a rushed and busy life.

Having a fountain in your garden brings a bit of the outdoors into your own sweet little space in the universe.  Set up an outdoor table and some chairs near your garden fountain where you can enjoy sipping coffee in the morning outside amidst the lush greenery accentuated by the sounds from nature furnished by the fountain. Or lounge in a hammock with or without company, after a hard day’s work just absorbing the pleasant sensations surrounding your garden.

Be it due to budgetary or space limitations or you simply prefer an unassuming piece of artwork to complement your garden space, opting for small outdoor fountains give you the biggest value for size and buck.
